Opera takes the leap into the digital age by taking advantage of the potential of animated projected backdrops and I was lucky enough to be asked to help them. To make it even better the great people at Boheme Opera NJ chose Mozart’s masterpiece The Magic Flute as the first to get the new treatment. It was quite a challenge. The Magic Flute has always been a special effects extravaganza and I only had a month and a half to prepare all the material for the two and a half hour performance. It was hugely rewarding and tons of fun and I’m just now starting work on the backdrops for next season’s performance of Faust.
